On July 18, two senior students – Caitlin Blewden and Janine Ramos – attended the Zero Waste Hui 2019 hosted by the Kaipatiki Project alongside Auckland Council, Para Kore Ki Tamaki and the Zero Waste Guardians. Throughout the day, they attended workshops surrounding the issues of ‘Plastic, Construction, Deconstruction, Up cycling and Food’. They focused in deep-dive conversation which enables them to understand the challenges, as well as connect around the opportunities and co-create solutions.

“As rangatahi, we bring our unique perspective on climate change as we take action for our future and for the future of Tāmaki Makaurau. We are living in uncertain times with responsibilities to Te Taiao, our tūpuna and those who will follow. Climate Change is an urgent issue for indigenous people, the oceans that connect us and the influence we hold as rangatahi. We must jump on board this waka and take action for our future and for the future of Tamaki Makaurau”.
