Visit from Kate Hall

At 22 Kate has already ticked many of life’s boxes. She’s happily married, owns a thriving childcare company and spends her days (and nights) encouraging us to live a more thoughtful existence of friendliness towards the planet, and each other. She manages to achieve all these things without producing a lot of waste.

Kate writes all things eco for numerous publications and has her own Blog and social channels where she documents her life of sustainable living and ethical fashion advocacy. Kate’s goal is to raise awareness about the accessibility of a lifestyle like hers.

Kate is a delegate for this week’s NZ Fashion Awards. She attends all the shows and reports on them for various online outlets. The main theme is ‘sustainability’.

Hello, my name is Kate Hall. I live and breathe sustainable living and ethical fashion. This alternative way of consuming and existing dominates my every waking moment – and sometimes more. Ethical fashion and living are no longer my hobbies, it has become my mission… to change the future of fast fashion and the way we consume. My husband and I strive to live a zero waste lifestyle, live at thrift stores and always look to ‘up-cycle’ rather than throw out. Eco living is not a choice for me, it’s in my blood and I am trying with all my power for it to be the new ‘norm’.

Visit to Waitakere Zero Waste Zone and Devonport Recycling Centre

To help with their research, the students went to the Waitakere Zero Waste Zone and the Devonport Recycling Centre. There they learnt about types of materials and what they do to the environment. They enjoyed making up-cycled containers with old vessels and taking tours that gave them a greater understanding of fast fashion and recycling.
