The Chess Club took part in two tournaments recently, showing great mettle as they took on formidable opponents.
A special acknowledgement goes to two Year 13 students; Nadia Braganza (Club Captain) and Serene Suh, who played their final tournament representing Carmel College. Throughout their 7 year journey at Carmel, these talented players have been supportive members of the Chess Club, making newcomers feel welcome and teaching chess skills. Joining them in this final tournament were Year 11 students, Angela Braganza and Sophie Barreto.
Four Year 7 students, led by team captain Iynah Jung, made their debut appearance to represent Carmel at the Intermediate competition. Their foray into the world of competitive play was filled with valuable learning experiences, with victories celebrated and defeats taken in stride. Their enthusiasm for the game promises a bright future for Carmel Chess.
Carmel Chess Club takes place on Wednesdays at lunchtime for students to play social and competitive games. New players are welcome to come and learn to play or test their skills against others.
