From The Principal

The 2023 academic school year is now complete.  Today we acknowledged and celebrated our students in Year 7 to 10 for their service and academic achievements.  Although not all students were recognised, each and every student should be very proud of what they have achieved this year.  To our students, thank you for striving for your personal academic excellence, for being a part of and contributing to our school community.

To those who achieved their service badges this year, thank you.  It is when our students provide service to others, when they give their time, they are developing skills and attributes that cannot be taught easily in the classroom.  They are living our Mercy values whereby they will be compassionate and respectful, where they will seek justice for others and themselves, and where they will have the courage to pursue their ambitions.

To our young women who were recognised for service, wear your badge with pride, you have walked the talk.  You have seen the need and made a difference.  You have given generously of your time for others.  You are living the Gospel message and are doing what Catherine McAuley called of us; to be a shining lamp giving light to all around us.

Over the break I challenge you to find a balance between rest and recuperation, and preparation and self improvement.  Yes, you need a break, but you also need to ensure that each day you are doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity, at least 30 minutes of reading, and unplugging from devices to enjoy time reconnecting with family and friends.

To our parents, caregivers, whānau and other members of our community who have supported us this year, thank you.  Thank you for your trust and the partnership that we continue to develop as together we guide and support our young women through their secondary school years, and all this entails.

I wish you all a safe and restful summer break and Christmas, and as we exchange gifts and share festive meals, let us not forget the true gifts of the season – love, kindness, and compassion.  May the spirit of Christmas infuse our community with joy and goodwill, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

May God’s blessing go with us today,

At the end of this school year we pray.

That you keep us safe and give us rest

So we start again renewed and refreshed.

Full of health, full of fun, ready to come and learn again.

May God’s blessing go with us today,

As we begin our school holiday.

Give your peace and your joy,

To every girl and every boy.

Help the teachers to enjoy the break,

and prepare and plan for the new intake.

May God’s blessings await us next year,

To embrace each new challenge without fear.

Fill this school with your love, and guide our hearts from above.

Full of faith, full of hope, full of joy, and full of love.

Amen
