It has been a busy start to the school year with lots of Catholic Character events. Thanks to Fr Mark and to our campus minister, Miss Lisa Emmanuel, who have been very busy planning and running these events for our community.

Ash WednesdayMarking the beginning of Lent; at this whole school liturgy, everyone received ashes with the words ‘Turn away from sin, be faithful to the Gospel’. The ashes come from the burnt palms given out at Palm Sunday last year. During the Lenten season which runs from now until Easter, we are all called to reflect on our lives and see how we can grow closer to God. It is a great time to get started on Service hours.

Catholic Schools Dedication MassIt is an annual tradition for staff from all 58 Catholic schools in the Auckland Diocese to gather for a Mass at Christ the King Parish, Owairaka with the Bishop to start the year. The RE staff attending were delighted to see our previous chaplain, Fr Marchellino Park there at Mass. Fr Marcellino has been in Thames for the past 2 years but is now back in Auckland serving the Mt Albert parish.

Year 7 RetreatA special day in our Carmel Calendar. The girls start the day with a teaching Mass and then work in their House groups for the day, learning about what it means to be a Carmel girl and getting to know a bit more about our Catholic and Mercy story and our Catholic and Carmel traditions. Our Year 13 House leaders created a very special welcome pack for each girl in their House.

It is great to see our Carmel girls participating in all these special events with appropriate behaviour and reverence for the occasion. Starting next week we will be hosting a range of prayer experiences in the Homestead Chapel each Wednesday lunchtime during Lent, and also Thursday lunchtime Masses in the hall will start up. All are welcome to attend.
