Every May, Deaf Aotearoa organises New Zealand Sign Language Week, a celebration of one of the country’s official languages.
New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Week is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity for the Deaf community to proudly embrace their identity and heritage. It’s time for us to celebrate NZSL’s rich heritage and unique culture by raising the awareness and respect of NZSL in general society. Through this, daily interactions for Deaf people are a little easier. We can break down barriers, eliminate misconceptions, and promote inclusivity.
Let’s come together as a school, learn, and celebrate NZSL during this special week so that we can create An Aotearoa Where Anyone Can Sign Anywhere.
