On 26 June, five Year 11 students (Alisha Gonsalves, Madeline Susanto, Rhianna Balingit, Polly Walker and Yu Na Lim) represented Carmel College in Round 2 of the Brain Bee Challenge at Auckland University Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. Students who achieved high scores in the Round 1 online quiz were invited to attend.
We participated in many activities including lab tours, meeting scientists and listening to them speak. It was a very interesting experience and we learnt lots of new things about neuroscience and research. There was also a team quiz and our team made it into the Teams Finals, placing 4th out of around 45 teams. We all got a $50 book voucher as the prize.
Yu Na Lim also took part in the Individual Finals for the top 10 students from the Round 2 online quiz. It was a close competition and after many tiebreakers, Yu Na placed 2nd in the North Island. She received a speaker, a trophy and an Internship at the Unisversity of Auckland.
Special thanks to Ms Mistry, Mrs Tippett and the Year 12 helpers who provided us with guidance throughout the challenge.
