In June, Year 11 Art and Year 12 & 13 Painters visited ‘Light from the Tate’, an exhibition at the Auckland City Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki along with teachers, Ms Menzies and Ms Miller, and parent helper, Norman Kohlberger.
The show featured over 100 artworks celebrating artists from around the world from the 1700s until now.
Students were tasked with learning about the development of the expression of light in Art History. They explored light and movement in works from Turner to Impressionist paintings right through to contemporary art movements. This trip hopefully helped students to ‘see the light’ and gain a greater understanding of light and shadow in their own works this year.
