Yu Na Lim, Year 11 (pictured front row second from right) placed 2nd in the North Island Round 2 of the Brain Bee Challenge and she was offered an internship at the University of Auckland which she completed in the recent holidays. Here is an account of her experience.
On 2 October, I visited the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at University of Auckland, Grafton Campus for my internship from the Brain Bee competition.
Firstly, we visited the Centre for Advanced Medical Imaging (CAMRI), where we learnt more about how the MRI works. We also visited the Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank and got to see brain cells growing and real human brains that were donated. I was able to talk to neuroscientists working in the labs and gained insight into the types of work they do and what it’s like to work in neuroscience/biomedical science. Overall, it was a really valuable experience and I’m very grateful to have had this opportunity.
