On 27 June, we held our annual Carmel Day. This started with a Mass in the morning to celebrate the feast day of our Lady of Mt Carmel. During our mass, we acknowledged members of our community who have contributed to building the tradition of our lived core Mercy values based on the Gospel teachings. The staff award recipients were Ginny Peek and Lois Bruce, and the community award recipient was Natalie Linstrom.
Following mass we had our Carmel Day concert which was movie genre themed this year. Each House had a chance to perform their 10 minute performance to the school and our judges, Catherine Hall and Katie Te Ao from the Northern Mystics netball team, and Lina Jang, one of our 2022 Head Girls. The Houses performed the following genres:
- Justine – Spooky genre
- Pompallier – Sci-fi and dystopian genre
- McAuley – Romance genre
- Cecilia Maher – Animation genre
- Alexandra – Comedy genre
- Kelly – Action and adventure genre
The concert was an absolute blast with every House group presenting incredible performances! In between the House acts we also had some incredible Talent Show Acts including two singing acts by Herbie Concolis and Fuailelagi Lima, two band performances by After 5 and The Nukes, and a dancing act by the K-Pop Klub. It was so awesome to recognise the incredible talent at Carmel and watch these girls shine as the school supported and cheered them on. The concert was finalised by the Year 13’s who performed a dance based on Coming of Age movie genre and by the Teachers Act which showcased country songs of the years.
A huge congratulations to McAuley house who took out first place, followed by Cecilia Maher in second place and Kelly in third place. All House leaders did an outstanding job throughout Term 2 forming the most creative performances and managing their House groups. We want to recognise their constant hard work and positive attitude towards everything they have been doing throughout the school year.
As one of the Head Girls for 2024, it was an absolute privilege to be able to organise and host Carmel Day this year. Hannah and I put time and effort into making sure the day was a success and hoped that we could foster an environment where all girls had the courage to step up and perform in front of the school. Carmel Day is all about building our school spirit and the sisterhood at our school, so seeing all the smiles and hearing all the cheers on the day made it evident that it was a success.
