From The Principal

Over the weekend, we held our third PTFA Christmas Market at the college.  The Christmas Market was a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together with around 2000 people attending the event.  Oak Tree Lawn was transformed into a magical environment that buzzed with Christmas joy and cheer as people perused the stalls, while many also appeared to enjoy the champagne terrace and Devonshire tea.

The Christmas Market was made possible by our amazing school PTFA parent members, Fiona McLeod, Leanne Chinnery, Tracey Tucker, Sandra Fernandes, Katie Krueger, Monica Seo, Deni Nersezova, Annabella D’Lima, Sylvia Pudney, Melanie Montellano and Rasha Kako, along with staff reps, Karen Mitchell and Liz Walker.  Your vision, time, passion and dedication ensured this event was a huge success.  I know each of you have other commitments, but you made this event a priority for our students and our community.  The college truly appreciates all you have done and the continuing work that the PTFA does to support and provide opportunities for our students.

This week, our junior students were recognised during House assemblies for receiving their well-earned service badges.  The level of dedication and commitment demonstrated by these students in completing their service work has been nothing short of inspiring.

As part of our school’s focus on service this year, these young women have truly embodied the spirit of our core values.  By actively seeking out opportunities to make a difference, they have shown remarkable responsibility and compassion.  Their efforts not only enrich our community but also highlight the importance of service in our school culture.

We are immensely proud of each of our students for their hard work and for exemplifying our values through their actions.  Their service reminds us all of the difference we can make when we recognise a need and take the initiative to help.

This week has also seen the school’s 2024 yearbook arrive and begin to be distributed.  This year’s edition truly encapsulates what has been an incredible year for our school community, capturing the essence of our experiences and celebrating the achievements, successes and milestones of our students.

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who contributed to the yearbook, whether through writing, photography, or assisting with coordination.  It is no small task to compile a school yearbook, and the collaboration required to bring it all together is a testament to the dedication and spirit of our school community.

The yearbook serves as a lasting reflection of our collective journey, and I am confident that it will be treasured for many years to come.  A huge thank you once again to all those involved—your efforts have created something truly special.

The week ahead will be busy for our students in Years 7-10 with Year 10 camp and a range of other exciting activities planned.  I encourage all students to participate and make the most of the many opportunities that our staff have organised.  It is in taking part that they develop the skills and attributes to be equipped and empowered to pursue their personal excellence, where they will develop and will be prepared to challenge and shape the future, whilst being a young woman of Mercy who acts justly, loves tenderly and walks humbly with our God.
