Kaitiaki o te Roto Group Plant Grasses

The Quarry Reserve at Lake Pupuke recently received some TLC from students in the Kaitiaki o te Roto group (Guardians of the Lake).  A team of intrepid Year 7 students worked with a Ranger from Auckland Council and a coordinator from Pupuke Birdsong to plant native grasses to enhance the reserve.  This is part of a long-term commitment the group has to help create habitats for native insects, encourage the return of native birds and create more riparian planting for the area.  The girls learnt about the positive impact of their activities during the session and were also able to earn an hour towards their Service commitment.
Year 7-9 students are welcome to join our next session in Term 3 which will involve weeding of pest plants.  Watch out for the sign-up opportunities on Google Classroom.
