On Tuesday 28 May, the Carmel College Orchestra had the unforgettable opportunity to attend the “Discovery Concert” hosted by the Auckland Philharmonia. This is part of our membership to the Auckland Philharmonia Schools Programme.
The concert’s theme this year was Programme Music, which brought vivid imagery to life through pieces like Handel’s “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,” Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice: Overture,” Wagner’s “Tannhauser: Arrival of the Guests at Wartburg;” and more contemporary works such as John Williams’ “Star Wars Imperial March”, Holst’s “The Planets: Jupiter”, Klaus Badelt’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” and more. The Carmel College Orchestra is excited to bring this inspiration to our own performances, ensuring we are well prepared for the KBB Music Festival later in Term 3.
