Happy Samoan Language Week!
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, we were not able to physically come together to celebrate this year’s Samoan language week. However, students here at Carmel College continued to honour and celebrate the week in safe ways that conformed to our Level 2 rules.
True to this year’s theme “Tapena sou ōso mo lau malaga” which translates to “Prepare yourself a gift for your travels” we were urged to prepare for our journey of moving forward from this global pandemic to normalcy. We achieved this through doing many fun and interactive activities in our small Atawhai classes where we; played Kahoots, coloured in, completed crossword puzzles, took part in a quiz competition and watched cultural videos. All whilst learning and using certain phrases such as; “Talofa/Hello”, “Ua mai oe?/How are you?”, and “Faafetai/Thank you”.
Last week was an overall great learning experience where Samoan students were able to embrace and share their mother tongue and other students were able to experience a big part of the Samoan Culture.
