Ten Carmel girls were recently chosen to have a wonderful experience involving the sun, the sea and a whole load of smiles.
Spirit of Adventure is a trust started by Sir Peter Blake which is a sailing programme encouraging young New Zealanders to get out on the water. Our time on the boat included rafting, cleaning, swimming and making friends, all the while we were on the 5 day spirit trophy voyage. Unfortunately our trip was cut short by one day due to Covid. The Carmel girls competed against three other teams from different schools and although it was a very tough competition, we came out third. Most of us made lifelong friends with other students from Hamilton Boys’ High School, Rangitoto College and Onewhero High School. We experienced so many great things such as waking up at 6.30am to jump in freezing cold water, jumping off the bowsprit (which was about 5.3 metres high), going on the rope swing and even climbing the mast. This was one of the best experiences of our lives!
