Carmel’s Equestrian team had a fantastic trip to Melbourne recently, where they competed in the prestigious Arilla Cup at Boneo Park.  The team arrived on Saturday and spent their time staying in Martha’s Cove.  On Sunday they met their five horses which were very generously loaned by local riders.  They even had daily lessons with Australian World Cup showjumper, Philip Lever, from Lever Equestrian and our team’s coach, Jaime Campbell.

While competing, the team rode against both adult and youth riders in large classes.   On the first day, Milly Scott took 1st place in the 80cm class, with Sienna Williams taking 2nd place, and Ella Smith placing 5th.  Ella continued her strong performance as she took 2nd place in the 95cm class on the second day.  However, the third day brought huge success for the team, as the girls demonstrated their skills with impressive results, with all four riders placing in the top six in both classes.  Unfortunately, Sienna couldn’t compete due to her horse having to be scratched, instead showing true sportsmanship helping her team.  In the 80cm class, Ella took 2nd place, Caitlyn Wilkin 3rd, Milly 4th, and Chloe Hourigan placing 6th.  In the 90cm class, Milly took 1st place, Caity 2nd, Chloe 3rd, and Ella came in 5th.

The team are grateful to Jaime Campbell for her exceptional organisation, coaching and support throughout the tour.  Thank you also to Phil and Frida Lever of Lever Equestrian for sourcing horses and coaching, the Campbell family for providing accommodation and looking after the girls and Julie Scott who went on the trip as the Team Manager.

The girls were an absolute credit to Carmel, not just for their exceptional riding but also for their horse management skills, helping out at the stables and at the show.  It was an incredible tour and an impressive performance from Carmel’s equestrian team
