Update of Medical Information
If your daughter’s medical information has changed or needs updating from when they first enrolled, please email sodonnell@carmel.school.nz.
Vision Screening Update
Te Whatu Ora has advised us that Waitemata Health Vision and Hearing team will no longer be vision screening our Year 7 students. If you are concerned about your daughter’s vision, we do advise you to see an Optometrist for a full diagnostic screening. Note: Specsavers offer free Vision screening for all children under 16 years.
Orah
We will be adopting a new wellbeing web based tool called Orah for all Year 7&8 students at the beginning of Term 3. Orah provides us with real time data in order to improve communication around student wellbeing between students, teachers, deans, and our counselling team.
Wellbeing Wednesday – each Wednesday all Year 7&8 students will complete a wellbeing ‘check in’ using the Orah platforms on their laptop/ipad devices.
Orah is based around a web-based and iOS app. Students will be able to engage with Orah’s wellbeing tool, Mood Checks which aims to assist us with:
- Implementing a safe space for regular check-ins with students.
- Collect data on how students are feeling and draw insights on how we can help and support students.
- Identify mental health concerns.
- Understand what activities or areas could be improved to better support our students.
- Help students identify the triggers that affect their mood and provide tools to students in order to develop coping techniques.
- Allow students to learn how factors such as sleep, diet and daily activities affect their moods.
At the beginning of Term 3, we will be sending invitations for students to connect to Orah to allow students to start submitting Mood Checks. For step-by-step instructions on how students will submit a Mood Check via Orah, please click HERE. If you have any questions or you would like your daughter to opt out of the Orah check ins, please contact Acting Deputy Principal, Toni Ferens tferens@carmel.schoolnz for more information.
Counselling Department Contacts
We have a team of three trained counsellors to address the variety of needs of our students. Our counsellors are registered members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and abide by the NZAC code of ethics. Students most often self-refer but can also be referred by teachers, deans, senior leadership, or parents. All counselling is private and confidential.
Students can book an appointment by emailing counsellors@carmel.school.nz or by completing a counselling request form in the counselling waiting room at the end of the main administration block. Similarly, they can visit the counselling space at interval or lunchtime to book an appointment with one of the counsellors.
