Stills is an annual, national secondary schools photography competition, with different categories including Altered, Place, Life in Motion, Connection, Special Objects, Best Film Image and overall winner. This year Stills received over 2200 submissions from across Aotearoa, with the top images selected by an experienced judging panel that includes some of New Zealand’s best photographers.
This year I was honoured to have placed third in the ‘Place’ category and national top 10. My photo was taken in Namibia, Africa while climbing one of the dunes inside the park in the early morning. While climbing back down, this Oryx appeared trekking up the same dune. This made for the perfect shot, showing the dune and vast desert beyond. I used a 300mm lens on a Canon EOS 200D.
