The Feast of the Assumption

On Tuesday, 15 August staff and students gathered for a liturgy to commemorate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Feast of the Assumption is an important day for Catholics as it is a day of Holy Obligation. On this day we celebrate the departure of Mary from this life and the assumption of body and soul into heaven. We reflect on the life of the Blessed Mother and her being the first disciple of Jesus Christ.

In New Zealand our patron is Our Lady assumed into heaven; we have dedicated Mary to this country to pray for us. She is also the patron saint of Carmel, as our school motto is Mana Maria, under the guidance and care of Mary, encouraging each of us to embody the virtues of Mary, a woman of faith, courage, and compassion.
