This term Year 11 Drama students are performing a shortened version of The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare. This is a slapstick comedy filled with beatings, arguments, food fights and much confusion.
The play is set in a city called Ephesus and follows a day in the life of two sets of identical, long lost twins. Not long after their birth, the two pairs of twins were separated in a shipwreck. One Antipholus, one Dromio (Antipholus’s servant) and their father were taken to Syracuse (an enemy city to Ephesus). The remaining Antipholus and Dromio now live in Ephesus. On a search to find their brothers, the Syracusan Antipholus and Dromio arrive in Ephesus where, unknown to them, their brothers live.
The play is all about the confusing interactions that take place on this day when the visiting twins, the twins that live in Ephesus and all the other people in Ephesus begin unwittingly to deal with the wrong twins. Accusations are flung between characters – the twins, Antipholus of Ephesus’s wife, her sister, a goldsmith and many more characters – until the confusion is finally revealed with one final plot twist.
Tickets are $5.00 and available HERE or at the door on the night. Faith Cafe will also be open.
