It was Carmel’s turn to host the Carmel & Rosmini Annual Beach Barbecue. Long Bay Regional Park hosted glorious weather and scenery for over 100 international girls, boys and host families. The day’s sports and games were ably organised by our Year 13 girls; Jiwon Lee (International Representative), Victoria Sutrisna, Tina Tan, Isabella Dultra, Helena Lee, Yoana Ho and Ava Waterhouse. A special thanks to Mrs Allan and Mrs Mackisack for their help on the day, and to chef, Jason.
The girls have been completing Service by handwriting letters to elderly folk who live alone. The recipients have been nominated by a member of their family through Love My Elders. The girls really stepped up to make sure the letters would be a wonderful and heartfelt surprise; Kanna from Japan included a crossword on Japanese culture; Anna from Thailand crafted origami flowers for a lady who used to enjoy gardening; Yue from China added secret pockets to her letter which held messages of affirmation and some crafted beads. The girls reflected on their relationship with their own grandparents, all of whom are living back in the girls’ home countries, and felt it important their letters made meaningful connections.
Our new, long term international students enjoyed a buzzing day at Sheepworld and The Honey Centre last week. This provided an opportunity for staff and students to spend time getting to know each other. The girls made butter, hand-fed farm animals, cuddled some bunnies and watched a sheep have a haircut. We finished off tasting spoonfuls of honey and a much needed ice-cream.
