The 2022 Year 7&8 Narrative Writing Competition held in Term 2 was on the theme of ‘hope’. Students needed to write a short story in any genre with a word length of up to 650 words. This is the second year this competition has run.
The standard of entries was very high again this year and proved a challenge for the judges to determine. English teacher, Katie Pidgeon, who judged the competition said: “The vein of creativity at Carmel in our junior school is rich and bountiful which made my judging role a mixed blessing, a joy and a challenge. Congratulations to our winners and runners-up. Their writing pieces were sophisticated and demonstrated an innate awareness of language and imagery. I’m excited by the prospect of the work they will create and grace the world with.”
After much consideration, the following girls have been awarded top prizes. The winners were awarded their certificates and prizes in the recent School Assembly. Winners received $100 Whitcoulls gift cards, while runners-up received a $30 gift card each.
